This theme brings together research in the fields of mechanical systems, data, digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In particular, it brings together research capabilities and expertise in applied analysis of theoretical design, the optimisation of mechanical and robotic systems, numerical modelling, cryptography, trajectory analysis, developments in AI applications, as well as the study and modelling of complex systems and data.
This theme draws on theoretical and experimental research for industrial, environmental and defence applications, and their socio-economic implications. It also incorporates research that takes a critical look at the uses of AI- and digital-based technologies, particularly in the fields of education and media.
